Best for
Find the net duration of one shift after subtracting a total break allowance. An end time earlier than the start is treated as crossing midnight. Because the inputs contain clock times rather than dates or time zones, this is not a multi-day elapsed-time calculator.
How to use it
Enter start and end times and nonnegative break minutes. Defaults are 09:00 to 17:30 with a 60-minute break. Combine multiple excluded breaks into one total, which must not exceed the shift length. Enter 0 explicitly for no break; changes recalculate the result automatically.
How to read the result
The result shows decimal hours alongside hours and minutes: the default is 7.5 hours, or 7h 30m. An earlier end time adds 24 hours, but identical start and end times mean zero duration, not a full day. Subtracting the entire shift also yields zero.
Privacy and limits
Clock times and break minutes are processed within this component, with no attendance-service request or saved shift history in its code. Clicking Copy result places the output on your system clipboard. Whether that clipboard synchronizes elsewhere depends on your device settings, not this calculator.
The calculation ignores time zones, daylight-saving changes, payroll rounding, and whether a break should be paid. It does not calculate overtime pay. Invalid clock inputs and invalid breaks can share the same error message, so check every field; use a date-aware tool for longer intervals.

Can it handle overnight shifts?
Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, it treats it as the next day.
Can I subtract breaks?
