Quick guide

What can HTML Formatter help you do?

Free HTML formatter and beautifier. Paste HTML and turn compact markup into readable indented code in your browser.

Best for

Use this for simple HTML fragments such as containers around headings, paragraphs, and void elements. It applies conservative text-formatting rules rather than a full DOM parser. There is no rendered preview, automatic repair, or security validation, and complex input may remain unchanged.

How to use it

Replace the prefilled sample with HTML; editing updates the result, and Format runs it again. Ordinary nested tags use two-space indentation. The sample button replaces your input. Read any preservation or rejection notice before copying, then compare the output with your source.

How to read the result

Simple opening-tag, text, and matching-closing-tag sequences stay on one line. Inputs containing pre, textarea, or complex mixed text may be returned unchanged, while script or style tags are rejected. Unchanged output can therefore be intentional rather than a failed formatting attempt.

Privacy and limits

Formatting runs in the browser, and output text is escaped for display rather than executed as page markup. The widget does not actively load image URLs from the fragment or save its contents. Remove tokens, private form values, and internal comments before sharing source snippets.

This is not a sanitizer: it does not remove event attributes or dangerous links, nor fully validate matching tags. Neatly indented output can still be invalid or unsafe HTML. Preserve the original and use your normal project checks to confirm layout, whitespace, and behavior.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does HTML leave my browser?

No. Formatting happens locally in the browser.

Is it a full HTML parser?

It is a practical formatter for common markup, not a validator.
