Quick guide

What can PII Masking Tool help you do?

Free PII masking tool. Paste text and hide names, phone numbers, IDs, emails, and addresses locally in your browser. No upload.

Best for

Make a first-pass, rule-based masking draft before sharing text containing possible names, phones, IDs, emails or addresses. It partially replaces matching fragments rather than fully anonymizing a document. Try the sample first to see which recognizable portions remain before using actual material.

How to use it

All five rules start enabled. Pasting text or changing checkboxes updates the output automatically; Mask PII also reruns processing. Load Sample replaces your input. Review the right-hand text before copying it. Clear empties both fields and statistics, but does not erase earlier clipboard contents.

How to read the result

The counter records replacement matches, not distinct people or remaining risk. Emails retain two initial characters and the full domain; phone numbers and IDs retain fragments, and names and addresses are only partly masked. Asterisks therefore do not prove that a person is unidentifiable.

Privacy and limits

Matching runs inside the browser without a text-submission API or persistent storage operation in this widget. The original stays visible in the input area; Copy takes only the output. Screen sharing, clipboard history and device synchronization may still expose or retain either version.

ID matching covers a letter followed by 1 or 2 and eight digits, not arbitrary national IDs. Name detection needs certain labels or contexts; phone and address patterns are limited too. Expect misses and false positives, inspect every passage, and never treat zero matches as a safety certificate.
